The linked and neighbouring ski holiday resorts of Risoul and Vars
The somewhat remote ski resorts Risoul and Vars offer some surprises for the skier. Good and challenging terrain can be found amongst the beginner and intermediate sanctuaries of the pistes. Both resorts offer security for novice skiers but Vars is the ski area where the more advanced terrain can be found. Additionally the weather so far south is known to be favourable.
Risoul
Risoul is an attractive ski resort, located at the decent height of 1850m. Risoul is linked with Vars to offer over 170km of ski pistes, with tree-lined cruisers, best suited to beginner or intermediate skiers. Accommodation in Risoul is numerous, although the post-ski activities do not reflect this or the size of the ski area at Risoul. A cinema, bars and restaurants are on offer in Risoul but the resort has a definite relaxed feel to it off the slopes.
Vars
Lift-linked to Risoul and sharing a good sized, combined ski area, Vars, like its neighbour offers a good snow record. The skiing best favours the intermediate, although if kudos is required for the après ski bars, then Vars has a dedicated speed ski track and is the location of numerous speed ski records. Despite a fairly restrained après ski scene, a run down this ski track could make you stand out from the crowd in a bar in Vars.
