La Grave - Isere, France
La Grave - offering some of the most extreme skiing in the French Alps, if not the world.
Located close to Les Deux Alpes the ski resort of La Grave offers splendid views in terrain which varies from intermediate to extreme. There are some of the most challenging routes in the French Alps to be found around La Grave. From the top station at over 3500m, the descent down over the Vallons de la Meije offers a massive 2100m of vertical. Guides are a must as some of the routes that can be taken genuinely threaten life. Away from the Vallons de la Meije, gentle slopes can be found that are perfect for the intermediate / beginner skiers. The village is compact and has a feeling of genuine alpinism; if you want riotous nightlife then head for the neighbouring Les Deux Alpes. There are a small number of bars, hotels and restaurants but the main focus in La Grave are the massive peaks that dominate the village.
With only one marked run and a dated lift system, those visiting La Grave are there for serious business. Piste Information in La Grave • La Grave ski resort height 1400 m / 4593 ft • top ski elevation 3550 m / 11647 ft • vertical 2150 m / 7054 ft • 12 km of ski piste • 5 ski lifts
