The ski resort of Chatel in the Portes du Soleil, France

Part of the Portes du Soleil and perfect for those looking for a relaxing break.

Part of the Portes du Soleil, the ski resort of Chatel, boasts a reasonable 80km of ski pistes, and beyond that a further 550km in the Portes du Soleil. The ski terrain at Chatel offers something for all ski abilities, and once this has been exhausted, it is time to raom the Portes du Soleil. Located close to Geneva, there is easy access, although in ski location terms, Chatel is on the fringe of the Portes du Soleil ski area. However this provides a less hectic pace. Chatel remains attractive despite its recent growth, but the ski resort is less well planned than the nearby Avoriaz. Depending on the accommodation in Chatel, there can be a transfer to the ski lifts. Of similar height to Morzine (another ski resort on Portes du Soleil), Chatel is equally less snow-sure than Avoriaz, a resort that offers a good and close alternative during times of poor snow cover in Chatel. Numerous post-piste activities are on offer in Chatel, however the après ski is more restrained compared to some of the local, vibrant neighbours on the Portes du Soleil.
